"I am
really excited to share my new CD, Brittni, with you. I have been so
inspired by my exploration of new genres of music, that in this CD,
I
take my ukulele on new journeys —from the classical period to the
modern, from the Latin rhythms to the fiery csardas, the captivating
folk dance originating from the Hungarian gypsies. A csardas is
characterized by a change in tempo. Several tracks on this CD start out
slowly and end in a really fast tempo, like a csardas. One of the tracks
is entitled Csardas, a piece originally written for violins. Of course,
you’ll hear my island roots throughout the CD.
For me, the past years
have been ones of preparation - academically, musically and spiritually.
This year, at my home school graduation from high school, my parents
spoke a blessing over me. This ceremony was a significant point in time
for me, because it marked not only a completion, but even more - a
transformation through all that I’ve learned and experienced. My CD
cover symbolically captures this change as I emerge from the life-giving
waters of my music and my life.
On this album, I am humbled to have
great bassists Nathan Aweau and Shawn Pimental, Ryan Hiroaki Tsukamoto
on violin, Dan Del Negro on keyboards, Wendell Ching (co-producer and
engineer) on drums, as well as to have the opportunity of a lifetime to
sing a duet with the legendary Melveen Leed."
